UNITED METHODIST WOMEN is a group of women who have dedicated themselves to mission, to study, and to service. Our two circles meet the first Tuesday night of every month for a program or for a service project. Some of these projects include collections for local and foreign missions as well as helping needy families in our community, especially around the holidays. Each UMW meeting is followed by light refreshments and a time for fellowship. Every woman is invited to become a part of one of these circles to aid in its outreach. UNITED METHODIST MEN is a group that meets the second Sunday of each month at 8:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall for breakfast, a short program, and planning their missions and projects. In the past, the UMM have been very active in the Fifth Street Mission in Statesville as well as other mission sites in the area. Every man is invited to this breakfast and to all of the UMM's activities. If you are interested, contact Stephen Freeze for more information.
B.U.M.S. (Broad Street United Methodist Seniors) is a group of people 55 and older who meet together for programs and for fellowship. The BUMS meet the third Thursday of every month. One month will be a regular meeting at the church followed by a meal and the next month will be a field trip to a place of their choosing. Also, the BUMS have an incredible Thanksgiving pot luck lunch every November. They have some wonderful cooks. Anyone who is 55 and older is invited to join the BUMS for their meetings and trips. PARADE FOOD On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the day of the big Christmas parade downtown, our church will be giving away FREE, that's right FREE, hot dogs and hot chocolate. Stop by the church and grab a bite to eat before ol' St. Nic arrives!
BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS In June 2010, Broad Street UMC held its first annual blessing of the animals. We began the service with words of welcome and Scripture readings regarding the glory of God's Creation and our task to help rightly care for it. Then, each person/family brought their animal individually to Pastor Amy to be blessed. We also served popcorn and sno cones, gave out awards to animals in various categories and had face painting. Next year, come out with your animals for a great afternoon!
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY If you crochet, knit, quilt, or would like to learn, this is the group for you. Our prayer shawl ministry meets from 10 AM to 12 PM the last Saturday of the month. Shawls, lap robes, chemo caps, baby blankets, and many other items are made and given to those both in our church and in our community who are facing illness, grief, or celebrations. Each piece is prayed over by the group before its distribution and each piece is accompanied by a handmade card containing a Bible verse.
