CHILDREN/YOUTH

KIDS IN ACTION (KIA) is our elementary children's program.  The Kids in Action meet every Sunday night from 5:30 PM until 6:30 PM.  The kids study different Bible stories, play games, participate in service projects, make crafts or goodies, and just have a great time!  Kids in Action is also very mission minded, holding events to raise funds for the Soup Kitchen as well as other helping agencies.  In 2009, the Kids in Action raised $1076 and 546 pounds of canned fruit for the Soup Kitchen.  They have also sponsored a Rock a Thon to benefit the Soup Kitchen and sponosored a lunch to raise money for Samaritan's International, an organization that helps to feed starving children around the world.  In addition to these events, they collect canned goods for local food banks, bake cookies for neighbors, and make cards for the sick and those in nursing homes.    These kids are indeed in action.

E.P.I.C. STUDENT MINISTRIES is for youth in grades 6-12.  This year, these students will also be collecting canned goods for local food banks, participating in short term mission trips, learning stories of faith and how to live a life of faith in the midst of every day challenges they face, go on a beach trip, hold fundraisers for the Mooresville Soup Kitchen and Christian Mission as well as visit nursing homes and perform various acts of outreach.  The goal is for these students to Encounter Power in Christ (E.P.I.C.).

TRUNK or TREAT In October, we host a fall festival for both our church and our surrounding community.  The fall festival is complete with FREE hot dogs, tea and lemonade, cookies and candy, and a prize for the best Halloween themed car!  A loyal church member brings the popcorn machine, we rent an inflatable or two for the kids and adults alike to jump around inside.  Sometimes we have sno cones, and there are always lots of games available for the kids.  This is a time for ALL AGES to come together and just have a good time in the great fall weather.

GIRL SCOUTS The Girl Scouts meet in the church Fellowship Hall every other Tuesday evening.  The Girl Scouts also lead our worship service through prayers and readings on the annual Girl Scout Sunday.  This is a great group of girls who do more than just sell delicious cookies (though they do that too).  For more information, contact Michelle Nesbit.

*Broad Street UMC has a safe sanctuaries policy to ensure the safety of all children and all volunteers.  Each volunteer has submitted to a criminal background check, and there are always two adults at every children/youth activity.*
